Cupping with Ballard Coffee Works
The Ballard/Seattle Coffee Works Crew.
If you’ve ever strolled through Ballard or anywhere near Pike Place Market downtown, then chances are you have seen that tall “Drinking Man” sipping on a cup of coffee above a coffee shop. In Ballard, that coffee shop is Ballard Coffee Works, which rests comfortably off Market Street and 22nd Avenue.
I’ve always enjoyed Ballard/Seattle Coffee Works’ coffee, so when I was invited by owner Sebastian to join them at one of their weekly coffee cuppings, I jumped at the opportunity.
In the following Seattle Coffee Scene Podcast, I take you along with me to their staff cupping where Sebastian, and his coffee roaster, Ponch, as well as other staff, taste, score, and discuss their coffees. It’s a fun, but utterly important exercise to train and develop staff members and to quantify the quality of their coffee offerings.
The interview starts with the cupping and later moves to my sit-down interview with Sebastian. No doubt, I had a fun time with the genuinely friendly staff (pictured above) and learned quite a bit too!
Sebastian shares his insight about starting a coffee shop and gives some useful advice on how to choose the right locations for your business.
