Coffee’s Biggest Event Starts Today in Seattle

The Specialty Coffee Association of America Annual’s Event In Seattle Arrives

Seattle is set to embrace the coffee world today at the Washington State Convention Center. The massive event, put on by the Specialty Coffee Association of America is expected to bring thousands of coffee experts, roasters, tasters, baristas, vendors, and coffee lovers to the Emerald City this weekend. SCAA Coffee Expo in Seattle is the biggest coffee event in the world joined by over 12,000 coffee professionals to discuss and share the latest trends, innovations and achievements in specialty coffee. 

While the opening ceremonies are tonight, the event has already started its competitions:

United States Barista Championship (USBC): This competition serves asplatform for baristas to enhance their espresso beverage making skills through an exciting and challenging competition.

United States Brewers Cup (USBrC): This competition highlights and celebrates the fine art of manual brewing.

Roasters Guild Roasters Choice Competition: The competition challenges competitors to test their sensory skills by discerning taste differences in a “triangulation.

Some basic facts about the event:

  • The Specialty Coffee Association of America’s (SCAA) 26th Annual Event (The Event) takes April 24 – April 27, 2014 at the Washington State Convention Center in Seattle, WA.
  • The first ever SCAA Exposition was held in New Orleans in 1989. Approximately 200 coffee professionals attended.
  • More than 9,000 specialty coffee professionals are expected to attend the 2014 SCAA Event.
  • The official Event Host is Starbucks.
