Down Home at Cherry Street Coffee House

A couple of years ago, I spent what seemed like a few consecutive days and nights at the Cherry Street Coffee House near Pioneer Square. I didn’t necessarily come for the coffee – though it’s pretty good – as I did for the Americana ambiance.

The down-home space allowed me to comfortably camp out – to work, eat, and sip up a steamy Americano. Cherry Street Coffee House is a pretty – I’m going to say it – nifty little café.

The Cherry Street Coffee House which is conveniently located on Cherry Street, should be commended for turning this little space into an urban nirvana where people feel like they can take off their shoes and turn on the television and wait for your TV dinner to be served by Auntie Ethel. Except there is no television (though they have WIFI) and dinner can be any one of their tasty sandwich plates.

Though they have many locations around Seattle, this coffee house has a very anti-chain feel to it, which is always welcoming in this town.

Have a cup of coffee here and you’d expect someone to come out of the bathroom with their robe, sandals, and rollers in their hair. That is how homey it is.

I truly enjoy the space. It’s not your everyday coffee house, which serves to remind me of the amazing diversity of coffee shops we have in this city.

As for their coffee, it’s way above average and I don’t mean that in a snobby way. It’s great actually. They offer a better and deep selection of soups, sandwiches, and pastries, which are all yummy. They also have some delicious gluten-free options: try their brownie or a raspberry bar.

The baristas in Cherry Street Coffee House are very friendly and will make you feel cozy and homey even if you have to wait in line for a perfectly foamed latte. The service is super-fast and very personal.

The place is excellent for claiming a table and getting work done. If you’re an expat and are missing home – or if you’re just in the area, consider dropping by and experiencing comforts of home for yourself (B-Y-O robe and hair rollers). Seattle coffee is waiting for you to discover it – Cherry Street Coffee House is a great place to start.
