Seattle Coffee & Bourbon: Liberty Espresso on 15th Ave

When I first came to Seattle I spent many hours at Liberty – an excellent café by day and just as wonderful night spot after 4pm. Thanks to Andrew, they have some of the best spirits in Seattle, and they also serve great local beer and sushi to boot.  In all, Liberty offers a mellow crowd to mingle amongst, great happy hour prices, and a sweet location that makes this a must visit in the evenings.

But today we are here for Seattle coffee…. Liberty-by-day is another wonderful Seattle cafe.

When you walk into Liberty Espresso you might not get the idea that you are walking into your typical neighborhood coffee shop. Perhaps, it’s because of the row of bourbons, whiskeys and a tall wine rack behind the bar?

Liberty Espresso is a wonderful and quaint cafe at the edge of 15th Ave business district.

The friendly baristas who serve Stumptown Coffee (see my review here) are very accommodating and often bring you your coffee right to your seat along with a tall glass of water.

The natural brown-orange hues and comfortable seating makes Liberty easy-on-the-eyes and a great place to relax.

The crowds here can range from professionals, artists, and connoisseurs of bourbon and good coffee, to exceptionally friendly locals.

Liberty can be deceptively small, but it has a large party room in the back which is often reserved for bigger parties.

Liberty Espresso is a wonderful coffee shop by day and bar by night.

Liberty Espresso owner, Doug, runs a clean ship but you can tell that his laid back manner spills over to the day-to-day operation of the cafe. Simply put, Liberty is just a nice place to grab a cup of coffee with a friend or simply camp for a couple of hours to do some work.

Even if you are not a whiskey connoisseur you will be offered a creative and definitely delicious cocktail. If you come during the day you might want to ask some liquor in your espresso and you won’t be disappointed. The baristas and bartenders are welcoming and energetic – it’s clear right away that they enjoy working here and would do everything to make their customers feel comfortable and relaxed.

The ambiance, the service, and well-made coffee work collectively to give Liberty 5 stars in my book. If you come in the late afternoon, you might want to experience both worlds that Liberty offers – its café and its happy hour specials.
