Do you ever wish you could get to your favorite cafe, but don’t have the time? Or do you find yourself working or studying from home but need a little “background noise” to help you to focus?
Then you are not alone.
Many people, especially in Seattle work at home but often need a little extra concentration-boost. I definitely need a little background noise to bet me started and focused – songs with lyrics are often distracting – and the TV is just a productivity killer.
So, what’s a coffee drinker who often works and studies from home to do? Well, there is no right or wrong answer here – just personal preference.
If you like working in dead silence or in noise bars, more power to you – I’ve tried both and have been unsuccessful.
So, with a lot of trial and error, I have a settled on a couple of tools to help keep me focused.
These include:
- A big cup of coffee made with my Bialetti Moka Express
- Pandora’s “Sonny Rollins Radio”
- Coffitivity
Without having to spend the time or money – or jockeying for an outlet or table next to someone chatting on their phone at a coffee shop, consider working with the above three items – at home!
I especially like utilize the three together when it’s too cold, when I’m feeling under the weather, or I just don’t have time to walk down to my favorite neighborhood Seattle coffee shop.
Having these three will no doubt transport you (almost) to your own comfortable seating area in the cafe of your choice!
Seriously try it!
Okay, So what is Coffitivity?
Coffeitivy (free and available at http://coffitivity.com/) is a free audio service that allows you to listen to “coffee shop” sounds simply by visiting their website. You can control the level of volume and ease right into the coffee shop “white” noise it creates.
Right now, I’m listening to “Morning Murmur – a gentle hum gets the day started.” Like I said, Coffitivity – is totally free!
I use it on my laptop, but you can also use it on your phone with their App. Once I log to to Coffitivity – I also overlap the audio with Pandora’s “Sonny Rollings Radio” (A personal favorite of mine) but you can use any Pandora radio you feel comfortable with.
That’s it! Now you can have fun working and studying in a coffee shop atmosphere without ever leaving it. If you try it – let me know what you think!
