Seattle’s Best Coffee Shops for Outdoor Lovers

Seattle Coffee Scene

Nestled between the western foothills of the Cascade mountain range and salty Puget Sound, the Emerald City attracts outdoor lovers, foodies, and technology geeks alike.

With unique access to both mountains and water, it’s this incredible geographic positioning that inspires so many world-renowned companies to stick around and call Seattle home.

One of those companies is Starbucks, who’s quickly become a household name and put Seattle on the map as one of the ultimate destinations for coffee lovers. Branching out beyond the green mermaid, however, you’ll find a plethora of truly fantastic coffee varieties and even more places to grab a seat and enjoy them!

With this vast array of niche coffee shops and cafes, we thought it might be both fun and helpful to highlight some of the best coffee shops for outdoorsy folks.

So whether you’re looking to shop at some of the city’s famous outdoor retailers, get out for a bike ride along the edge of Lake Washington, going rock climbing, or paddling across one of our many waterways, be sure to check out these awesome and conveniently located Seattle coffee shops.

Stone Way Cafe (Fremont)

First on the list is the Fremont favorite, Stone Way Cafe! Positioned right next door to the flagship evo Seattle Store and just a block up from the Burke Gilman Trail, Stone Way Cafe is almost always bustling with Seattleites who’re gobbling up their incredible selection of breakfast burritos, sandwiches and baked treats — not to mention their consistently tasty espresso and coffee. Whether you’re just hopping off the bike path for lunch (i.e. Burke Gilman Trail), swinging by evo for bike rentals or to scope out the latest and greatest mountain bikes, or visiting the indoor All Together Skatepark on a rainy fall day, Stone Way Cafe is a must-try destination.

Peloton Cafe (First Hill)

Consistently ranking as one of the top cities for cyclists, Peloton Cafe found an awesome niche as a combination bike repair shop + cafe. Need some quick-fix bike maintenance before your weekend century ride? Want to discuss some of the best cycling routes through the San Juan Islands? Swing by Peloton and pick the brains of their staff members over a cup of coffee.

West Wall Bar (SoDo)

Looking for a fun and active outing in Seattle during a rainy spell? Then visit Seattle Bouldering Project — a massive indoor bouldering (i.e. rock climbing without ropes) gym situated in the south end of Downtown Seattle. Guaranteed to be fun for both seasoned climbers and newbies alike, SBP offers a wide range of routes (or “problems”) spanning across two floors. On the bottom floor is West Wall Bar, a relaxed and casual space to send emails or visit with friends both pre- or post-climbing. West Wall offers a full coffee menu, rotating draft beers, and a solid selection of food to refuel.

MiiR Flagship (Fremont)

Similar to Peloton, MiiR’s flagship location fills a niche that nobody knew they needed, yet everyone seems to love! As a coffee shop / beer garden / bike store / water bottle manufacturer with a rotating “guest roaster” and an awesome hybrid space, the Miir Flagship is another great spot for outdoorsy folks. Conveniently positioned kitty corner to the Burke Gilman Trail and Gas Works Park, this is a great choice for those looking to paddle around Lake Union or cruise along Seattle’s most popular bike path.

Ampersand Cafe (Alki Beach)

Want to step back from the skyscrapers, go longboarding down a boardwalk, rent paddleboards and/or stroll the beaches of West Seattle? Then head on over to Alki Beach and explore one of Seattle’s hidden gems. With a vibe that’s reminiscent of a Southern California beach community great access to the beach and an incredible look-back view of Downtown Seattle, the Ampersand Cafe on Alki is a foolproof choice for both hardcore outdoor explorers and reserved tourists alike.
