I can be an easy man to please.

Having a great cup of coffee in one hand is really all it takes, but a freshly baked biscuit too?  That’s a bit of heaven.

Just up the Ave in the University District, Sound Coffee and Morsel which opened on May 8, 2012, caters to locals, UW students, and Seattle coffee lovers who simply enjoy chatting with owner, Kekoa Chin-Hadano and staff.

“Our customers are awesome, they like our food and they like us … and we like them. I really couldn’t ask for better customers,” Kekoa said as he worked the espresso machine fixing me an espresso.

If you like local and freshly made food, you’ll love Morsel’s offerings. Much of their menu is prepared in-house including the syrups for coffee, caramel sauces, and jams for the biscuits. The quality of theseattle coffee biscuits baked fresh every day falls to Domingo Ramos, who ensures every biscuit is made to perfection.

At Sound Coffee and Morsel, you’ll find a few simple truths:

  • Great tasting coffee is valued (the serve Velton’s Coffee)
  • Your patronage is most welcome
  • And the Biscuits are Always Fresh

What should you try? Kekoa has favorite: “Biscuits and gravy with a fried egg and house pickled jalapeños – I can eat that every day,” he tells me. I will have to try that next time I visit.

University District’s Morsel biscuits are different from anything you tried before. They also have wonderful breakfast sandwiches on their biscuits: the most famous one is the Spanish fly with prosciutto, arugula and Gruyere. The ambiance is homey and the coffee is always perfect.

Certainly, every neighborhood deserves an inviting place, like Morsel, that offers great coffee and biscuits, friendly and genuine staff, and coffee so good that makes you want to sing.

On the weekends they’re often packed, so come early. Come often.
