The only thing possibly better than enjoying a great cup of coffee in a beautiful café is actually meeting and talking with the owner of the coffee shop who’s vision and passion created the café.
This is what happened to me recently, when I stopped in to the Post Alley Café in the University District.
Post Alley Café is easy-on-the eyes café that provides a perfect place to people watch, visit with a friend, and enjoy a lovely coffee and assortment of pastries.
Post Alley Café is situated in the Hotel Deca, an iconic Art Nouveau hotel dating back to the 1930’s. The café was opened in November 2015.
Listen to our Podcast Interview with Post Alley Cafe:
Marcia started her business 20 years ago as an even managers. Today, Post Alley Café is a part of Jewel Hospitality, a catering company that she runs with her family.
The café is Maria’s first retail business.
“I wanted to create a cafe that represents iconic Seattle feeling, which is why we have themed all our cafes around the Pike Place Market concept. I like the concept of Post Alley where people can venture just a tiny bit outside of the main market but still encompass the feeling of the market,” Evans said.
It is certainly a beautiful space that honors the feeling the Pike Place Market brings to Seattle. Post Alley Cafe serves Herkimer Coffee which is a wonderful Seattle coffee roaster that you should definitely try if you haven’t done so already.
“From a business standpoint our location in Hotel Deca has amazing foot traffic. The hotel is 90% occupied most of the time. It attracts people from all over the world. And the other reason is the openness, light and brightness of the space,” Evans said.
The café itself is perfectly situated. For those of you who haven’t been to the University District in some time, the space used to be occupied by Tully’s for 20 years.
“We work with some incredible designers. They brought in pops of colors – bright yellow. On a rainy grey Seattle day it’s happy, bright, fun and playful”. “It looks just as good on a bright sunny day. And it’s very popular among students and professionals in the neighborhood,’ added Will, her son-in-law.
